1. I'm getting ready for a semi-backpacking slash eco-center rebuilding trip and I FINALLY get the chance to use the backpack I won for what it's meant for - backpacking. Not storage. I've never really gone backpacking and, although this is a lighter version of backpacking than the typical out in the woods and carry everything journey, I'm still a little nervous. I just tried the stuffed pack on and it's heavy...oh well, I can survive anything for 6 days, right? Right.
2. I have lived here in Sfantu Gheorghe for just shy of three months and today I realized there is a way from my apartment to the outdoor market, where I go at least once a week, that takes only 15 minutes instead of 30. One little left turn and surprise! It's right there. Three months. I've been walking twice the necessary distance for three months, thinking the whole time I knew what I was doing. This is where I'd deserve a "you didn't know that?"

LOL. Sounds like something I would do-no wait, have done.
Happy trails to you; may your back be strong and your guide be certain of his direction ;)
isn't it strange how paths lead into other paths, and how much a place can seem familiar until another avenue appears and then . . . fifteen less minutes to the market. but also maybe things appear when they're supposed to and who knows what might have befallen you if you'd discovered such a short cut too early in your stay in Sfantu Gheorghe :)
When are you headed out? Take lots of pictures! I bet it will be beautiful.
I think it's a sign you're becoming comfortable with your surroundings - HUZZAH!
Exactly one week until Mel comes home for a whole week's visit, also taking a shortcut, i.e. flying.
Have fun on the trek!
I still find new ways to get places, and I've done exactly that, too. Though here, it's usually prompted by construction closing the road without warning... But hopefully you don't have to deal with that. :-)
That's awesome that you're getting so comfortable there - have a cookie to celebrate. :-)
i put my new path to good use today and even stopped for ice cream on the way there, with all this extra time that i'm saving now.
mel's coming home for a visit?! aw, give her a great big hug for me. man, that's weird. mel in reno and i'm not there. bummer.
i WISH there was road construction here - at least that'd mean the roads were improving. the roads are torn up stretches of pot-holy doom. i am missing the orange road cone...it does not exist here.
Did you enjoy your backpacking adventure?
