Call for plays
I must say, I'm a little disappointed. I've been searching for about three hours now for something to do with the drama club in honor of Women's Day (March 8th), but whenever I type into the search engine any combination of the following words: one-act play women history promote strong, the only plays that come up are about eating disorders or abusive relationships. Yes, eating disorders and bad relationships are troubling topics worthy of discussion and dramatic performance, but I think the history and pride of women is a bit richer and hopefully brighter than anorexia or abusive men. I don't want to sound insensitive, but I'm hoping to put on something uplifting about the changes women can make in the world instead of focusing on how the world can beat us down. And I'm having a very difficult time finding a (royalty free) one-act play to do that with. So...I guess I'm asking for your advice, if you know of any plays out there that would fit the ticket. I know it's a long shot, but leave me a comment with your suggestion and if it works out, I'll dedicate the play to you. Thanks.

You should write your own play, depicting, strong famous women, like women in science, math, arts, women movements etc... you could have the students research a woman in the field they are interested in so you don't have to do all the work????
there are some monologues from famous women
try searching International Womens day - poems or performance...found this link but it looks like you have to purchase them
good luck

It's too long for your needs and about sex (because it's Grecian), but Lysistrata is the ultimate woman's play. Hilarious! Women (on both sides of a battle) withholding sex to stop men from warring. Awesome.
You might try typing in a famous woman's name like Eleanor Roosevelt and than type in play and see what happens. Good Luck! Love, Mom & Ozzie

Eleanor Roosevelt is licking herself on my desk THIS VERY MOMENT!
thanks for all the hints! i do believe we are going to try the "write your own monologue based on your research of an important woman of your choice" method, thanks 'nee. it seemed like too much at first, but after presenting the idea to the kids and expecting them to be annoyed by the thought of the extra work, i was pleasantly surprised by their true interest. so we'll see!
you made me snort, mel.
This will be interesting. I'm curious to hear what women they choose.
To Eleanor: turbo kittens Moo-dy and Shadow suggest chasing morning sun rays.
Sounds like a Chautauqua in the making! Janet
